Legacy Academy

Legacy Academy

Our LEGACY Academy programs are specifically designed to meet the unique needs of widowed parents.
LEGACY is an acronym for Learning to Embrace Grief And Care for the Young.

Re-creating your world after your spouse/partner has died is one of the most challenging aspects of grief. Every one of us will have our own unique challenges and experiences that we must face as we re-invent ourselves.

The goal of our LEGACY Academy program is to provide education, understanding and friendship so we can empower widowed parents with skills and confidence to create a healthy grief journey to rebuild the future of their young family.

All topics will help support you to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to not only model healthy grief to your children, but also to help rebuild your young family’s lives and dreams for the future.

This group runs monthly is a variety of locations and formats. You are welcome to attend any that fit your needs best. Registration is required

  • Kitchener/Waterloo - meets at The Family Centre
  • Hamilton - meets at Dermody’s Funeral Home

Parenting is hard enough when there were two of you but to find yourself a grieving solo parent of grieving children feels just about impossible!
How do we raise, support and care for our child(ren) after the death of their parent? Where do we find the words to help them navigate their grief? How do we differentiate between normal childhood behaviour and behaviour of a grieving child? How do we help our children to not only survive this tragedy but to thrive and grow from it?
This 3 week seminar will provide education and practical support to equip parents with tools and strategies to effectively support your young family.
Please register and we will be in touch with next session dates.

  • Week 1 – Understanding Grief
  • Week 2 – Supporting your kid’s grief & building resilience
  • Week 3 – Supporting yourself

Our in house groups are on hold during pandemic
